Today l would like to introduce you to the Knoshimamimasu amateru Mitama shrine. It is also commonly known as “Konoshina shrine” and “Silkworm shrine”. It is a shrine that has been worshipped as a god of playing rain since ancient times, and is known for having a rare three-pillar torii gate in the precincts.
As the name suggests, the shape of the three-pillar Torii is a Torii with three pillars. In fact, three is only one three-pillar Torii gate in Japan. In other words, it is only found at Konoshima shrine.
There is a place where stones are piled up in the center of this Torii, it is said that it represents the center of the universe,a closed space.
In the Edo period, it was also depicted in a painting by Katsushika Hokusai, and it is believed that it has been known as a rare Torii gate since ancient times.
The temple grounds are located due south of Narabigaoka and due east of Koyuki temple.
Please come and see the very rare three-pillar Torii.
