今回は嵐山羅漢を紹介します。
This time, I’ll introduce the Arashiyama Rakan.
羅漢とは釈迦の弟子たちのことで、仏教において悟りを開いた尊敬される存在のことです。
Rakanare disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha, revered figures who have attained enlightenment in Buddhism.
ここに羅漢像が置かれたのは宝厳院の呼び掛けで、阪神淡路大震災（1995年）の犠牲者を供養するため、全国の人々が石仏を寄進したの始まりです。
The Rakan statues were placed here at the request of Hogon-in Temple, which led to people from all over Japan donating stone Buddha statues to commemorate the victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake (1995).
現在では、先祖供養、嵐山の守護、企業繁栄祈願などのために、羅漢像を奉納することができます。
Today, Rakan statues can be donated to honor ancestors, protect Arashiyama, pray for the prosperity of businesses, and more.
