今回紹介するのは法輪寺の十三参りです。
十三参りとは数え歳 十三歳になった子どもたちが智恵や福徳を授かるため、お参りをする。というもので、元は公家の成人式が起源だそうです。
ぼくも十三歳の時にお参りに行きましたが、関西だけでなく関真からも訪れる人がいるようです。御本車は虚空蔵産で洗寺の由来がもともと工芸、技芸を職とした人々に深く信仰された「葛野井宮」が起源であることと合わせて、幼少年期より青年期に移ろうとする人生の転換期に、智福を与え、技芸に長じさせ給えと願うようになったと言われています。。。

Here’s what I’d like to introduce today: the Jusan-mairi ceremony at Horinji Temple.
Jusan-mairi is a traditional rite in which children, upon reaching the age of thirteen (by the traditional Japanese count), visit the temple to pray for wisdom and good fortune. The custom is said to have originated from an imperial court coming-of-age ceremony.
I also took part in Jusan-mairi when I turned thirteen, and it’s not only children from the Kansai region—people come from all over Japan to take part. The principal deity enshrined at Horinji is Kokuzo Bosatsu. The temple’s origins are tied to Kadonoi-no-miya, which was deeply revered by craftsmen and artisans. Because of this background, Jusan-mairi came to be seen as a rite marking the transition from childhood to adolescence, where people pray for wisdom and for the refinement of their skills.
Horinji has many charms beyond the Jusan-mairi ceremony, so I highly recommend paying a visit if you have the chance.
